As Manila’s go-to event designer and florist of its tastemakers, Pat P. Tañedo tells the story of nature’s splendor and human connection–one bloom at a time.
In the world of luxury, creating an overall experience that is equal parts sensorial, ephemeral, and emotional can be a daunting task, but for more than a decade, SPRUCE has been working on the hottest events in town. Their fresh floral arrangements and botanicals have enhanced the customer experience at the city’s most beloved luxury destinations. Among them are Hermès, Dior, Cartier, Baccarat, Fendi, Tiffany & Co., and Louis Vuitton. The brand has also helped tell the story of these luxury houses through customized gifting and private dinners.

Apart from providing floral arrangements and botanicals, SPRUCE is the quiet presence that has shaped some of the dreamiest milestone celebrations in recent months. These include the weddings of Christian Tantoco and Siobhan Lakehall, Christopher de Leon and Giulia Zahar, and Heinrich Cole and Monica Concepcion. More recently, they have also bridged the art-filled indoors with the vibrant city outdoors by providing floral centerpieces for Art Fair Philippines 2026.

Founder and Creative Director of SPRUCE, Pat P. Tañedo, starts:
“We are in the business of listening to our clients, and balancing this with our aesthetic. Some brands or customers know exactly what they want. Sometimes, they are more certain about how they want their space or events to feel. We translate that in our designs. It’s the same with the floral arrangements. When you send flowers, you are sending a feeling–of gratitude, affection, empathy, love. Our job is to convey that message.”

Private events designed by SPRUCE are created with intention. Pat elaborates: “We usually start with the color palette and flower types, identifying the look and style that we want to achieve.” The creative director and designer does not believe in making things look big or grand for the sake of visual impact. “We are more interested in allowing the space to breathe rather than creating arrangements that are Instagrammable.”

Instead of simply filling up a space or event, the SPRUCE team considers the guest or customer experience. “We think about the entrance, first impressions, and the full sensorial experience,” Pat details. Their designs are also informed by principles of balance, function, comfort, and ease of moment. They are shaped by the story of a space, event, or brand. “It’s important to get to know the client or brand and what this event means to them and to the guests.”
Since its founding in 2007, SPRUCE has consistently delivered floral arrangements and created designs that enliven spaces and amplify human connection. “For us, it is not just designing an event that will look good in photos. We design events so that we can help clients convey a feeling and create memorable experiences,” Pat intimates. “We harness the ability of flowers, foliage, and plants to do just that. Regardless of scale, season, or space–once all the elements like lights, linens, china, and crystals have been laid out, floral arrangements are the final touch that breathes life into any celebration or space.”
SUMMERTIME DESIGN TIPS FROM SPRUCE:
- Flowers of the season. “Sunflowers are very summery and last longer. I also love working with orchids during that summertime. Cut leaves add a sense of freshness to any space.”
- Easy and practical floral arrangements. “I’m very practical about floral arrangements. Basically, I cut what is available in my garden. This summer, that would be bromeliads, birds of paradise, and cilium leaves. Instead of a long, large arrangement, I like to create smaller arrangements and line them along the length of my dining table. That way, I can easily move them around the house after the event.”
- Inspiration for Mother’s Day blooms. “We always try to come up with something extra special every Mother’s Day. Our idea this year was to convey feelings of love, happiness, and comfort so we utilized a lot of pinks and yellows. We also came up with florals that have striking blues and oranges for something more unique and unexpected.”
- Creating arrangements for the outdoors. “For beach celebrations, I recommend using a lot of foliage and tropical flowers. Greens are also very refreshing to the senses. If you are hosting in a garden space, consider using vibrant colors that will pop. Generally, I stay away from whites or pastels when it comes to these types of spaces.”
