M Residences Katipunan, developed by VCDC’s Victor Consunji, makes you want to reflect on the question of what makes a house a great home. In our minds, a home should echo the deepest recesses of our hearts, where we want that harmonious balance of work, life, and play. And with this new iteration of real estate development, we’ll find that it seamlessly blends timeless elegance, raw durability, and sculptural functionality.

Innovation and a well-thought-out design concept have consistently played an essential role in every home built by the esteemed developer. This edition of the M Residences is no exception, featuring unique architectural elements that inspire contemporary living and strike a harmonious balance between space, functionality, and aesthetics. These unique architectural elements set M Residences apart, offering a living experience that is both modern and luxurious.

Looking back through the pages of the Philippines’ architectural history, Victor sought to change things by reintroducing Philippine Brutalism in a contemporary way. This iconic architectural style dominated the design world in the post-war 1950s, with Europe leading the movement by rebuilding its fallen structures.

Raw, unadorned concrete and functional designs characterize its aesthetic. Seeing its potential for his home country, Leandro Locsin, one of the country’s leading architects at the time, decided to apply the principles of Brutalism to the government’s developments by rebuilding fast after the destruction of the capital’s buildings and building momentum post-independence.
Philippine Brutalism, however, is not done in the most traditional sense, even though it applies its fundamental principles of combining raw concrete, shapes & natural elements. Coming from the French word béton brut, meaning “raw concrete,” Brutalism experienced renewed interest, with both public and residential spaces reinterpreting the style from a modern perspective.

“At M Residences Katipunan, we raised the bar with a distinctive new design to offer a new notion of elevated metropolitan living,” said Consunji. “The concrete materials used in Brutalism offered an advantage in that they could be cast in any shape, allowing a space to evolve over time in harmony with the changing needs and preferences of our M Residents.”

By debuting a “Modern Brutalist” design at the Katipunan project, M Residences shifted its aesthetic from tropical minimalism to a bolder, more raw design inspired by the new style. This shift in aesthetic reflects M Residences’ commitment to staying at the forefront of architectural trends, offering future residents a new lease on what it means to live life on their terms.
