Artist Spotlight: Olan Ventura on Art Meets Fashion

How and when did you first find out that your art was walking down a Parisian runway for Givenchy, and what was the very first thing that went through your mind?

I first saw the dress inspired by one of my artworks while browsing my social media feed. It immediately opened a new perspective for me, as it introduced a different medium through which I could see my work come alive in a way I hadn’t imagined before.

Was it strange or exciting to see your colors and shapes moving on a person instead of sitting on a canvas?

It was exciting to see the artwork take on a new form. Sarah Burton’s execution surprised me because it gave the piece a more sophisticated and fashionable interpretation. The piece was transformed into something interactive and wearable and the show allowed my work to reach a wider audience in the fashion industry.

Fashion houses often have their own ‘aesthetic.’ Do you feel like the runway show kept the true meaning of your work, or did it turn it into something completely different?

In a way, it still kept the essence of the work by finding beauty within the errors and seeing things from an unexpected perspective. The runway show of Givenchy reimagined it into something that audiences could experience differently, not just by observing it on a flat canvas but by seeing its movement and dynamics.

Now that the world has seen your style in a fashion context, would you be more open with collaborations with clothing and accessories brands?

Yes, definitely. Seeing my work interpreted within a fashion context opens the door to new markets. I believe art should remain subjective and open to interpretation, and collaborations like this allow the message and visual language of the work to exist beyond the traditional boundaries of a painting.

If you were to work with more brands or fashion houses on creating a line that truly resonates with your philosophy, which designer house would you work with?

I would definitely be open to future collaborations. I’m interested in working with designers or fashion houses that are drawn to the visual language of my work and who see the potential of translating it into different forms. I think meaningful collaborations happen when both sides share a genuine appreciation for the artistic process and vision.

By celebrating the union of art and fashion, creatives turn the retail stores and runways into living galleries. This ongoing dialogue between the two disciplines is what keeps the industry connected and the audience inspired.
