Whenever I think about my favorite brands and products in makeup, Laura Mercier always pops up. It’s one of the few brands that I became so used to having, and it all began with their iconic Tinted Moisturizer.
A few years back, I, like most millennials, would cover my face with so much foundation to the point that my poor skin couldn’t breathe. As a result, I was breaking out, which was slightly more traumatic for a girl who was always out and about during her college years and early twenties.
That all changed when I was in Los Angeles a few years ago, while my mother and I were shopping at Macy’s, and we passed by the Laura Mercier booth. By that time, I had only read about Laura Mercier through an interview that Meghan Markle did with Beauty Banter, where she mentioned that she loved using the foundation primer for that no-makeup glow. But unfortunately, at the time, they were already out of stock.
That was when my mother said, “Why don’t you try the Tinted Moisturizer instead?” to which the beauty associate in charge agreed in unison.
That was when I tried it out, and I’ll tell you this now, I was and still am hooked to the point that I would buy extras just in case I ran out. It became part of my daily look, just like how I always wear a watch no matter what the occasion.

Now, Laura Mercier is in the Philippines — and I had the immense pleasure of attending a unique experience that combined two of my greatest loves: beauty and fashion.

The event, which was focused on the debut of the new formulation of its iconic tinted moisturizer, had makeup and styling classes with iconic newscaster Pia Guanio-Mago serving as the model, along with makeup guru Gery Penaso and style maven Patricia Coronado leading the discussion on tips and tricks in both beauty and style.
Coronado, for instance, spoke about the synonymous nature of style and beauty, “Beauty, much like fashion is all about creating a defining look that makes you not only feel confident but also it makes you stand out, it’s not about trends it’s about what makes you happy.”

Penaso demonstrated the incredibly buildable nature of each L.M. product and how easily it transitions from day to night with a quick flick of the eye crayon. Watching him work was fascinating, and it just reminded me why I fell in love with the brand in the first place.
At the end of the day, in a world where beauty and style trends come and go faster than I can actually keep up with, having that experience reminded me why it’s so important to not follow every single trend out there and to stick to what you love. While experimenting is cool and great, there’s something comforting about having that one reliable product that just works for you, whether it’s makeup or a go-to pair of pants or a watch, as long as it makes you feel great.
