Renowned Spanish photographer Bernardo Aja brings his striking portrait series EntreMuros to the Philippines for an exclusive exhibition at Instituto Cervantes de Manila. Presented by the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines, AECID, and Instituto Cervantes, in collaboration with De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde and the Intramuros Administration, the exhibition runs from April 10 to July 7, 2025.

First captured in 2018 across Cebu, Negros, and Luzon, EntreMuros offers a deeply introspective lens into Filipino identity. Aja’s portraits highlight characters often existing outside mainstream narratives, blending rich detail with understated irony. His subjects—at once dignified, eccentric, and profoundly human—invite viewers into intimate visual dialogues.

Born in Santander, Spain, in 1973, Aja is recognized as one of the leading photographers of his generation. His work has been featured in prestigious international platforms such as the Florence Biennale (2011), Lima Biennale (2014), and the Havana Biennale (2015). As a photojournalist, he has worked with global news agencies including Reuters, EFE, and the Associated Press, capturing iconic figures such as the Dalai Lama, Bill Clinton, Pelé, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Spanish royalty. From 1997 to 1999, Aja served as the personal photographer of Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori.

Complementing the exhibit, Aja will also conduct a two-day hands-on photography workshop titled Trades and Chores on April 10–11. Participants will explore the streets of Intramuros, documenting the people and professions that continue to shape Manila’s historic walled city.
Admission to both the exhibition and workshop is free. For more details, visit Instituto Cervantes Manila or follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/InstitutoCervantesManila.
